Gaucho
Rural
Strong, fierce, proud and independent are words which describe the Gaucho. This real cowboy of the Pampa of Uruguay and Argentina still lives here. To get to know his life and habits, several Estancias offer the opportunity to learn more about the rural day to day life in Uruguay. We've selected several Estancias here.
Quebrada del Castillo, Piriápolis, Maldonado
The farm was constructed in the XIX century. The main activity is horse & cattle breeding. Our visitors can participate in the farm's typical rural activities, but, overall, they can enjoy tranquility in a fantastic environment, enjoying wild nature and the autochthonous flora & fauna, with a feeling of being in the past.
La Calera, Tacuarembó
Five generations old, it was established in the late 19th century as a cattle breeding ranch. Since a decade we offer agrotourism activities, next to our daily activities as working ranch. We offer an irresistible combination of peace, tradition, nature, service, comfort supported by more than 110 years of history.
El Rincón, Rivera
The farm, main activity is rice growing, is located between several rivers. This makes it possible to offer a wide variety of tourism activities, like boating, hunting (large and small), bird watching (over 160 species), fishing and safari.
El Charabón, Rocha
For already three generations El Charabón is in the hands of the family of Jorge Zuasnábar. The main activities are cattle breeding and forestation.
