Beach Santa Teresa
Sun & Sea
The South and East of Uruguay are bordered by the Rio de la Plata (the widest river mouth on earth) and the Atlantic Ocean. Here you find some interesting resorts.
Punta del Este
Worldwide known as a scenic resort area with miles of beautiful beaches, luxury hotels and restaurants, glittery nightlife and an upscale summer population. Punta del Este is a well-known jetset beach resort. The upper class from Argentina and Brazil come here strolling over the boulevard.
Piriápolis
A more quiet sea side resort is Piriápolis, being the first sea side resort of Uruguay, more European style build, more relaxed with a beautiful boulevard. Located beautifully between the hills and sandy beaches. From the Cerro Inglés you have a marvelous view over the surroundings and the Rio de la Plata.
Atlántida
Atlántida, only 45 km from Montevideo, offers a lot like a zoológico, parcs, shops, and a lot of activitities for small children.
The beaches are great and there are sports for all ages. At night there is a casino, movie theatre and a disco, apart from a lot of restaurants.
La Paloma
A very popular resort in the Province of Rocha at the Atlantic Ocean, with a wide variety of beaches. For everybody there is a suitable beach; families with small children, youth, fishermen, surfers, etc. At night there are several bars, restaurants, shops, disco's and a casino.
Cabo Polonio
It is a small, secluded town, a former outpost of pirates and fishermen. It sits on the tip of a moon-sliver peninsula that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean. There is no traffic, since it's been build amidst the sand dunes and no roads lead to town.
To get to Cabo Polonio you can arrange a 4x4 which will bring you to town in a 30 minutes drive through the dunes.
