Types of Holidays
Uruguay has a lot to offer as holiday location. First and foremost Uruguay's tourism is based on the sea side resorts. Punta del Este is a well-known jetset beach resort. The upper class from Argentina and Brasil come here strolling over the boulevard. Another sea side resort is Piriapolis, being the first sea side resort of Uruguay, with a more European style, more relaxed and a spa-hotel (Argentino Hotel****) located at the boulevard looking out over the Rio de la Plata.

Piriapolis beach
Besides the Argentino Hotel in Piriapolis there are several Spa-resorts in the North West of Uruguay, near Paysandu and Salto. The water temperature ranges from 32 - 42 C depending on the resort. The water has different qualities having numerous curative properties.
Ecotourism & rural tourism show strong growth in Uruguay. You can stay at farms, living the life of a real Gaucho (Uruguayan cowboy). Ecotourism varies from visiting the sea lions colonies near Punta del Este or going hiking or canoeing. Furthermore there are several golf courses in Montevideo, Punta del Este which, combined with the perfect weather conditions of Uruguay, can be a real pleasure to play on.
From a cultural point of view Montevideo offers a lot of theatre, nightlife and tango. Off course Carnaval in February and March (40 nights long) is worth mentioning. Also the old fort at the Cerro is worth a visit, as well as Colonia del Sacramento (one hour drive to the West of Montevideo) which is named a World Heritage by Unesco.
