Activities in Uruguay
The main attraction of Uruguay are it's many longstretched sandy beaches, along the Rio de la Plata and the Atlantic Ocean. With summer temperatures rising to 30 C or more, it's a nice refreshment. However more can be seen and done in Uruguay.
It has a large potential for eco & rural tourism. The countryside has small villages with quiet (dirt) roads and beautiful sights over the rolling hills. However the eco- & rural tourism has not yet taken a huge part of tourism.
Another interesting part of Uruguay is it's location in history and with that it's historical sites. Located between the former empires of Spain and Portugal, both claiming the rights to Uruguay, several battles were fought, before Uruguay claimed it's independence. From this history still some sites are remaining, like fortresses and old city centres.
Also the Capital, Montevideo is worth a visit. These pages will give some ideas of activities in some regions of the country. The map below shows the regions as used in these pages.
